She holds a MA degree in Human Relations and is a trained mediator. Mary is the co-founder of the NVC Academy, an online school for learning Nonviolent Communication; and the executive director of the Peace Workshop, International, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting practical methods for living nonviolently. She teaches Nonviolent Communication to individuals, couples, and families, and offers retreats and workshops to help organizations strengthen their productivity and success. Tuesday1. Adam Meyerowitz, L.Ac.
Adam received his Masters of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, CA. Upon completion of the 4 year program, Adam spent time in China furthering his Acupuncture and Herbal studies at the Chengdu TCM University and Hospital in Chengdu, China. While there, Adam had the chance to study under some of China's most respected herbalists and physicians.Adam is a Nationally certified Diplomat of Oriental Medicine as well as a California Board Licensed Acupuncturist. Adam also has over 10 years of study and practice of various mind-body and energetic techniques including Meditation, Visualization, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, and various Energy Healing modalities. Priel Schmalbach Priel grew up on a 5 acre fruit tree grove and fish farm in Florida where he became very connected to nature. After high school he went to University of Florida and majored in Neurobiological Sciences. During undergraduate he loved to teach; he taught yoga and also the MCAT for Kaplan. As a yogi he started to think about disease as a process to prevent before it gets to a point that it requires treatment. After undergraduate he worked as an operating room assistant at North Florida Regional Medical Center and continued teaching MCAT and Yoga. It was in the OR that he was exposed to the power of Western Medicine. Today he is working on completing an MD/PhD program at UC Irvine. He hopes to use his MD in the Family Medicine, Integrative setting, bringing continuity of care to his community. The PhD will be a tool to study both the efficacy of existing CAM therapies as well as develop new interventions to both prevent disease and cure it. Wednesday1. Dr. Wen-Shuo Wu
http://www.scuhs.edu/ 2. Dr. John Longhurst John C. Longhurst is a professor in the Department of Medicine, the Department of Physiology and Biophysics and the Center for Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. After completing his B.S. in Zoology at the University of California, Davis, Longhurst obtained his M.D. from the UC Davis School of Medicine in 1973 and his Ph.D. in Cardiovascular-Pulmonary physiology - also at UC Davis - in 1974. Longhurst studies interactions between the nervous and cardiovascular systems in a number of different conditions, including in patients with decreased blood flow to the heart, during exercise and during acupuncture. He also studies neural and hormonal mechanisms that underlie acupuncture's influence on the cardiovascular system. Longhurst has more than 130 peer-reviewed publications to his credit, and currently serves on the editorial board of the professional journal Circulation. In the past, he has served on the boards of the journals Sports & Medicine and Journal of Applied Physiology, and has acted as associate editor for the journal Medicine and Sciencein Sports and Exercise. 3. Dr. Jeannette Painovich Dr. Jeannette Painovich, has been practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine since 2000 and received her doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 2006. She has a private practices in Los Alamitos but it also very active in the field of integrative medicine. She founded the first ever inpatient acupuncture fellowship program for doctoral students at Good Samaritan Hospital as well as conducted a two-year research project examining the effectiveness of acupuncture in the inpatient setting. Dr. Painovichhas also conducted acupuncture research in the areas of menopause and cardiovascular disease. |
Thursday1. Dr. Zuzana Bic
2. Dr. Wadie Najm Dr. Wadie I. Najm is a Clinical Professor in Family Medicine at UCI’s School of Medicine. He received his M.D. at the Universite Libre de Bruxelles and went on to receive his M.Ed. in Medical Education at the University of Southern California. Dr. Najm is currently the medical director at the Susan Samueli Center for Integrative Medicine in Newport Beach. He is particularly interested in the research of Complementary & Alternative Medicine, Ethnicity and Complementary & Alternative Medicine, and Acupuncture. Dr. Najm has presented his research in a number of publications, many of which focus on the use of Integrative Medicine in the practice of Family Medicine. He is an integral part of the UCI community and a great supporter of the education in integrative medicine. |
